I’m extremely thankful to Karthik for repairing my shoulder, which was in quite a mess by the time of my operation. It now feels so much better and Karthik was the consummate professional throughout, reassuring me every step of the way.

I would highly recommend Dr Karuppaiah as he has totally rebuilt my shoulder and got me back on my bike within 3 months. He answered all my questions and has given me sufficient confidence to get back 'under the knife' in October, to remove the screws and plates (optional).

On meeting with Dr Karuppaiah, I noticed he had a very calm and warm approach to myself as his patient. This immediately put me at ease. On my initial meeting, Dr Karuppiah almost instantly diagnosed my condition as being "trigger finger". He gave me a couple of options, with one of them being minor surgery. When I opted for surgery, his personable, yet professional and empathetic approach, allowed me to feel that I was in safe hands (no pun intended). He ensured that I understood all that was going to happen and what to expect post surgery, until I was due to see him again to remove my stiches. I really appreciated his honesty towards any discomfort that I might have experienced by the procedure. The operation itself was reasonably quick, and after receiving a local anaesthetic, I literally felt nothing. I am very happy to recommend this excellent Consultant and Surgeon, along with his very helpful Medical PA, Hagar, who was very accommodating and super efficient in booking me in for the procedure. I hope you have the same positive experience as I did.

When I saw Mr Karuppaiah he diagnosed severe arthritis in the basal thumb joint of my left hand. The joint had partially dislocated (subluxed) resulting in a major loss of thumb function and the development of ‘trigger thumb’. In September 2021, Mr Karuppaiah performed a total excision of the trapezium bone and ligament reconstruction, together with releasing the constriction in the tendon sheath that was causing the thumb to trigger. The operation was very successful and my thumb function has now been totally restored. Not only is Mr Karuppaiah a first-rate surgeon but he always went the extra mile to explain my condition and the appropriate treatment. My personality is such that I become very concerned about health issues and Mr Karuppaiah instinctively understood this, always treating me with helpful sensitivity. I was particularly fortunate to have consulted Mr Karuppaiah privately following an unsatisfactory ‘virtual’ consultation with my GP and a cursory visual examination by a nurse practitioner who failed to identify the problem.

Mr Karuppaiah operated on my badly broken humerus in early March 2021. I had sustained radial nerve damage resulting in radial nerve palsy. Immediately postoperatively he explained the injury carefully to me, and encouraged me to be actively invested in the physiotherapy and occupational therapy that he referred me for in order to facilitate recovery. When I felt like giving up (because there was no noticeable function in my hand after 4 months) he showed me photos that were taken during surgery to explain that although the nerve was ‘tented’ by a spike of broken bone, he and his team had managed during surgery to keep the nerve intact, and he was confident that I would regain function in my hand. His honest, practical explanations helped me to persevere with the exercise programme. Today, 9 months after the accident, my bone is fully healed, I have most of the function back in my hand, and it continues to improve. I can drive, do gardening, cook and get on with my life. I am very grateful for his expertise as a surgeon, and also for his compassionate communication as a health professional.
